FAQ

What format should I provide my photo in?

To ensure they can be selected and printed in large format, your photos must be provided to us in the following formats:

  • PNG or JPEG with a full resolution
  • RAW format.
What if my photo shows an identifiable face?

Remember that every person has the right to their image, so if your photo features identifiable faces, it cannot be displayed without the permission of those individuals.

To use an image (photo or video) of a person, you must obtain their written consent if they are recognizable (for broadcasting, publishing, reproduction, or commercial purposes).
If the image is taken in a private setting, you need permission if you are recognizable (vacation, family event, sports or cultural event…).
If the image is taken in a public setting, permission is necessary if you are isolated and recognizable. Oral consent to be photographed or filmed is not sufficient.
The written consent must specify: on which platform the image will be displayed, for what purpose, and for how long. Written consent is also required if the image is reused for a different purpose than the original publication.
The UPCité image rights form is available HERE.

However, image rights have certain limits to ensure the respect for the right to information, freedom of expression, and artistic and cultural freedom. Therefore, consent is not required to broadcast certain images as long as the person’s dignity is respected and the image is not used for commercial purposes. For example:

  • Images of a group or a street scene in a public place, as long as no individual is singled out and within the limits of the right to information.
  • Images of a news event or a public demonstration within the limits of the right to information and artistic creation.
  • Images of a public figure in the course of their duties if the purpose of the image is to inform (e.g., an elected official).
  • Images illustrating a historical subject.
When will the results be announced? How do I collect my prize?

The selected photos will be announced on April 29th during the opening event at the Grand Hall of Grands Moulins at 6:00 PM. Large-format photos will be available for the winners starting June 6th. Gift cards and skylines will also be handed out at the opening event.

What selection criteria will the jury consider?

The criteria considered by the jury will be as follows:

  • Technical quality of the photograph (definition and resolution)
  • Adherence to the theme mentioned in Article 1 of these rules
  • Visual impact of the image (effect of the photographic image on the viewer’s emotions or intellect)
  • Originality of the vision (ability to present a subject from a new or unique perspective)
