Université Paris Cité strengthens its alliances in Asia

From Vietnam to Singapore, including the APAIE exhibition in Hong Kong, a delegation from Université Paris Cité recently traveled to Asia to meet several strategic partners on the continent: the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Université Paris Cité’s presence in Asia

In 2025, an interdisciplinary delegation led by President Édouard Kaminski visited China to reinforce historical ties with its academic partners, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Wuhan University. Later that year, this visit led to the signing of a framework cooperation agreement and a mobility agreement between UPCité and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Continuing this strategy of international openness, Université Paris Cité has recently signed cooperation agreements with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune and the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, making these institutions UPCité’s first partners in India.

Université Paris Cité now counts several leading partners across Asia 

The Faculty of Science maintains a partnership with University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), which includes the development of joint programs. Among these are two off-site master’s degrees: the SPACE Master offered by the UFR of Physics, featuring two tracks in satellite engineering and space-based sciences, including astrophysics and Earth observation; and the Advanced Materials Sciences and Nanotechnology Master (MAMSN) offered by the UFR of Chemistry. These programs allow around a dozen Vietnamese students each year to earn a UPCité master’s degree, some of whom go on to pursue a research PhD at UPCité. The partnership also includes an international chemistry track, integrated into the Master’s in Chemistry and Materials Science. As part of this program, a dozen UPCité students spend their second semester in Hanoi.

Additionally, Université Paris Cité is a member of a French-Vietnamese consortium dedicated to joint research initiatives with USTH.

In the Humanities and Social Sciences, Asia represents a priority for the Faculty, with collaborations developed in China, Japan, and South Korea, particularly for student mobility. The Faculty also houses the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations (LCAO), which offers programs focused on the major civilizations and languages of East Asia.

In Singapore, the National University of Singapore has been a key partner of Université Paris Cité since 2014. Strengthened by a series of agreements signed since 2020, this collaboration spans research, education, and student and doctoral mobility. To date, it has supported 54 research projects, 24 training programs, and 19 doctoral exchanges.

Exploring new opportunities for academic and scientific collaboration

Led by the Université Paris Cité delegation, meetings with the National University of Singapore and the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi helped reinforce existing collaborations with Asian partners and enhance the University’s global presence.

The Faculty of Science at UPCité is currently working on developing three double-degree programs with USTH.

The delegation also had the opportunity to meet the Faculty of Science (FoS) at NUS, as well as several university units including the NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI) and the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute. The Faculty of Science and NUS aim to develop international collaborations by connecting researchers from both institutions.

The visit also included participation in the APAIE (Asia-Pacific Association for International Education) fair, held on February 24–25 in Hong Kong. Present at this major global higher education event for several years, Université Paris Cité engages with its international partners and explores new opportunities for academic and scientific collaboration.
