The Graduate School of Governance, Decisions, Transitions of Université Paris Cité is pleased to announce its inaugural conference, which will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 5:00 PM, at the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Management on the Malakoff campus.
This first conference is part of the Graduate School’s research themes and will focus on a timely topic: “The Economy and Climate Diplomacy.”
No prior registration is required
You will only need to present your Université Paris Cité student or staff ID card to access the event.
The study of transitions, especially the ecological transition, along with the governance mechanisms needed for its implementation, is one of the main areas of focus for the Graduate School Governance, Decisions, Transitions. In an era where the fight against global warming is a worldwide priority, countries are exploring various strategies to meet the goals set by international agreements. However, the tools – whether economic or legal – that need to be put in place to support this transition are still widely discussed. This conference will provide a unique opportunity to shed light on these issues from complementary perspectives.
The event will feature an enriching dialogue between economists and legal experts. We will have the honor of welcoming Christian DE PERTHUIS, a professor at Université Paris Dauphine PSL and founder of the Climate Economy Chair. He will present his latest book, Fossil Carbon, Living Carbon: Towards a New Climate Economy, where he addresses the necessary transformations of our economic model in response to environmental challenges.
His presentation will be followed by Makane Moïse MBENGUE, a professor of international law at the University of Geneva, an expert in international environmental law, and the author of numerous publications on climate diplomacy. He will highlight recent developments in climate diplomacy, explaining how international negotiations influence environmental policies worldwide.
The two presentations will engage in dialogue, creating a space for interdisciplinary exchange. The conference will conclude with an open debate, allowing the audience to interact directly with the speakers.
The discussion will be moderated by Ludivine ROUSSEY, a lecturer in economics at Université Paris Cité, and Caroline KLEINER, a professor of private law at Université Paris Cité and the director of the Graduate School of Governance, Decisions, Transitions.
