Course overview

The French-German Master in Geophysics is a two-year program designed for students with a solid background in physics and mathematics and a keen interest in geosciences. This program allows them to build a personalized, original, and specialized profile by taking advantage of courses offered at two complementary sites: the Université Paris Cité – Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (UPCité-IPGP) in France and the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) in Germany.

Students have the opportunity to spend a year at the partner university and benefit from the comprehensive geoscience orientation of the UPC-IPGP as well as expertise in the field of geoelectromagnetism and the pedagogical mine at TUBAF, which is unique in Europe. The program is taught in English, intercultural events are organized and a joint summer school promotes cultural exchange. The practice-oriented training teaches geophysical methods in the field and in the laboratory, numerical modeling, and data interpretation.

Skills and competencies developed

Graduates are perfectly prepared to pursue a doctorate or take on positions of responsibility in companies and environmental organizations in Germany, France, and internationally.
